Paying union dues is typically an unavoidable fact. The UAW gets its cut of your paycheck and is free to do what it wants with those funds without your approval. Here are some facts about initiation fees and union dues, according to the UAW Constitution:
FACT: "The initiation fee, no part of which
shall be considered as a Local Union fine, shall not be less than ten dollars ($10.00) nor more than fifty dollars ($50.00) for membership in a Local Union of the
International Union."
FACT: "Minimum Union dues shall be a sum equivalent to two (2) hours straight time pay per month."
FACT: "Dues income shall be distributed so that the Local Union shall receive thirty-eight (38) percent, the International Union Strike Assistance Fund shall receive
thirty (30) percent, the General Administrative Fund of
the International Union shall receive thirty-two (32) percent."
The UAW stands to gain a lot by organizing DMMI. With over 1,600 employees paying dues for every week for three years, that money can really add up. That's what the organizing drive means to the UAW - money.
But what would that mean to you? By entering some simple information, you can see what you might be giving the UAW over the life of a 3 year contract.
Remember, the UAW can only get what DMMI is willing to give. |
