Unions keep their members in line, both on and off the job, with one very important document - the union constitution.

The UAW International Constitution, some 200 pages long, outlines in great detail and in no uncertain terms the rules and regulations to which its members must adhere. Click here to see the constitution for yourself.

Read the Fine Print

The UAW constitution restricts the freedoms of its members and any violations of these rules can and do result in disciplinary action. Take a look at a few interesting excerpts from the constitution.

No Voice

UAW members lose the right to speak for themselves about their jobs to management, because the union speaks for them.

Money, Money, Money

With 10 pages just on finances, including collecting dues and fees, the UAW has made it clear just how important money is to the union.

Rule breakers

Then there are 10 more pages dedicated to explaining what happens to union members who break any of the union rules, including be charged, tried and possibly suspended.

And if members decided they don't like what the union is doing and they want to vote out the union, the UAW can put them on trial and punish them for trying.
